Fun Run to Raise Funds for School Damaged in Albanian Earthquake

On 23 February, the ‘One Step for Durres’ fun run will take place in Durres to raise funds to repair the school that was damaged by the 26 November earthquake in Sukth.

The event is the initiative of Durres sportswoman Deborah Keçi, who said in an interview with Panaroma Sport:

“I love it when a sport is used to bring people together and I believe in the power it has to not only make us healthier but also to contribute to a certain cause. So I decided to organise a run, as what happened with the earthquake affected us all.

‘One step for Durres’ will be a race where it matters little whether you run fast or slow, and who comes last or first, but it will be an event where we will take a step towards the future, hence the slogan of activity is ‘take a step for Durres too’.”

She explained that the money raised will serve to fix whatever is possible at Sukth Elementary School ‘Njazi Mastori’, damaged by a series of quakes that shook the region last year.

The race will have a distance of 5 kilometres and will pass by some of the cities most scenic spots.

Each contestant must pay 10 euros to participate, and more information on the event can be found here.
