Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said Greece thinks the European Union should open negotiation talks with Albania and North Macedonia.
Dendias is currently on a one-day trip to Albania, which he began in the southern town of Himara where he met with representatives of Albania’s Greek minority.
Afterwards, Dendias travelled to Tirana where he was welcomed by Albanian Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka.
Following talks with Xhacka, the two gave a press conference about their discussion.
“I would also like to speak about Albania’s European future. Greece fully supports the start of negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia and is absolutely ready to provide technical assistance. We think that the European perspective of the Western Balkans is a one-way street,” he said.
Dendias is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama later today. The two are expected to discuss shelving an ongoing legal case about territorial demarcation.
