Greek journalist and publisher Stefanos Chios was shot outside his house in the early hours of this morning.
The media reports that the shooting happened around 3 am when Chios was returning to his house in Vrilissia, a suburb of Athens. It is alleged that two individuals ambushed him and shot him in the back, neck, and ribs. There were also bullets found in the body of his car
He is in a stable but serious condition. The case is being investigated by the Department of Crimes Against Life.
Publisher of the fringe newspaper ‘Makeleio’, Chios was arrested in 2018 for writing that the Greek President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister should be shot in the head following the name deal between Greece and North Macedonia.In March of this year, an arrest warrant was issued for him over allegations he published fake news regarding COVID-19. Chios had written that banks and supermarkets would be closing due to the pandemic.
