Interior Minister Sander Lleshaj Takes Responsibility for Appointing Alleged Communist Spy in Senior Police Role

Sander Lleshaj, Minister of Interior stated that he is solely responsible for the appointment of Deputy Director of State Police Gjovalin Loka and Artan Shkëmbi.

“I am responsible for their appointments. I do not give an answer to the opposition because they are unsubstantiated and baseless allusions “,  Lleshaj said in response to the accusations of the opposition against Gjovalin Loka.

The Foreign Evaluation Commission for Vetting in the Police confirmed Gjovalin Loka in office, despite discovering that he had hidden his past during the communist era, something that should have precluded him from the role.

During the investigation, the KJV found that Gjovalin Loka, director of the State Police, was an operative of state security during the communist dictatorship. He did not include this fact at any stage during his appointment process and later said that he hadn’t actually spied on anyone during his time at the Sigurimi.

Loka’s appointment in violation of the law was criticized by the DP.

At. the end of August, Albert Dervishaj was appointed as the new Deputy Director of the State Police. It’s alleged he had cooperated with State Security for over a decade and his appointment to his new role is not legal.
