Kosova One Step Closer to Visa Liberalization

Yesterday, the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) voted for visa liberalization for Kosova, paving the way for the long process that will ultimately allow the free movement of Kosovar citizens within the Schengen zone.

With 30 votes for, 10 against, and two abstentions, LIBE approved the European Commission report that recommended visa liberalization.

According to the EP rapporteur for Kosova Tanja Fajon, Kosova and her citizens have met the criteria set by the EU for visa liberalization, thus this green light is entirely deserved.

Following the LIBE approval, the European Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers will also need to vote on the proposal. The necessary procedures in EU institutions will take at least 6 months to complete, though the upcoming EU elections, expected to take place in the beginning of 2019, may further delay the process.
