The Kosovo Ministry of Finance has approved a decision that will allocate new mothers over 18 a monthly stipend of €170.
According to the decision, new mothers who were unemployed in the year preceding the birth will receive €170 a month for up to six months.
Mothers who are employed will receive the sum for up to three months following the birth. This sum will be in addition to any payment they receive during maternity leave from the government or their respective employers.
This will apply to all new mothers who have given birth starting August 1, 2021. Eligible mothers will need to make a request through the e-Kosovo portal to receive the stipend.
The government will also pay families €20 a month for children under 2 years old, and €10 a month for children under 16.
Speaking at press conference, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the decision aims to protect and empower women.
