Kosovo came first in the European Judo Championships in Portugal’s capital of Lisbon. The Kosovo team brought home two gold medals and a bronze.
Judokas Distria Krasniqi and Akil Gjakova won gold medals, while Nora Gjakova came third in her category.
Two other judokas, Loriana Kuka and Laura Fazliu were listed fifth in their categories.
Akil Gjakova is the first man to bring the country a gold medal, while his sister Nora Gjakova won gold in 2018 at the European Championship held in Turkey.
“Kosovo concluded the most triumphant European event in the history of judo and Kosovo sports as a whole,” team’s coach Driton Kuka wrote in a Facebook post.
Following many successful performances of Kosovo’s judokas, the country has become a serious international competitor.
Kuka’s Judo team put a spotlight on the country when Majlinda Kelmendi made history in 2016, by becoming the first athlete to bring home a gold in Kosovo’s first-ever Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
