Kosovo Headed to Snap Elections as Parliament is Set to Dissolve

The Parliament of Kosovo will vote to dissolve on August 22, opening the way for the president to set a date for snap elections.

The decision was taken today by all parliamentary groups. The dissolution should be supported by two-thirds of the 120-seat parliament.

Today’s decision came about two weeks after Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s resignation. Haradinaj was called for questioning as a suspect by a special court based in Hague, investigating potential crimes against ethnic Serbs during the Kosovo was 20 years ago.

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci will have to set a date for snap general election, which should take place no later than 45 days after the parliament is dissolved.
