Kosovo Police Officer Arrested for Rape of a Minor

A police officer from Kosovo’s town of Kamecia has been arrested on Wednesday, based on suspicions of having raped a 15-year-old girl.

The suspect has been suspended until the investigations are over, while Prishtina-based newspaper Reporteri reported that the minor suffers from a mental illness.

The Kosovo Police Inspectorate explained that several days ago their Investigation Department received an information according to which a police officer committed the criminal offense of “sexual attack”.

The Minister of Justice of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu said that the competent bodies should immediately take the necessary steps and if these suspicions are confirmed, “such persons should not only leave the uniform, but also receive the deserved punishment”.

She added that Kosovo Police, in addition to protecting the freedoms and rights guaranteed, are also an example of them.

“He should have been a reference to the behavior for every citizen and not himself involved in rapes as there are suspicions of rape of a minor girl by the police officer,” Haxhiu said.
