“The president represents the country both internally, and internationally,” Kosovo President Hashim Thaci declared when asked regarding who would lead the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
During homages for Pristina’s Liberation Day, Thaci responded to questions by reporters by stating the dialogue would be led by “Kosovo’s legitimate representatives.” The Constitution, Thaci claimed, clearly defines the representative competency of the President.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti also stated that he will lead the Kosovo team in the EU-mediated dialogue with Serbia. The Constitution and a Constitutional Court ruling stipulate that the prime minister leads negotiations.
Thaci added that he had not been officially notified of the EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak’s impending visit to Pristina. “It is important for us that international representatives treat Kosovo as an independent and sovereign country,” Thaci said.
He also reasserted his trust in the US, specifically “the leadership of President Trump and the dynamic energy of ambassador Grenell, that will bring about effective results.”
