The new Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti is scheduled to visit Tirana on 11 February.
The leader of Vetvendosje, Kurti received the confidence of 86 MPs on 3 February and formed a new government following elections on 6 October 2019.
This will be his first visit to Albania in his new role and he is expected to meet with senior government officials. One of the topics on the agenda could well be the Mini Schengen plans that Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has been working on with erbia and Montenegro.
Under the administration of ex-Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, Kosovo refused to join the initiative citing Serbia’s refusal to accept Kosovo as an independent state amongst other issues.
Rama responded by calling him “ignorant” and a “liar”. Rama then filed a lawsuit for defamation against Haradinaj, claiming that he lied in public by saying Rama was planning to push for the exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia. Rama claims that Haradinaj’s statement has created a public opinion that Rama is working against the interests of Kosovo.
