Kosovo’s Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti has supported the arrests of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) members in the past two days.
“The Government of the Republic of Kosovo considers that the actions of the Specialist Chambers stem from their legal and constitutional obligations and responsibilities, and should be considered as independent actions of justice,” Hoti wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday.
The prime minister added that justice must be served, and that the Kosovo people’s fight for freedom can’t be compromised by its result.
The EULEX and Kosovo police arrested the president and two deputies of the KLA veterans association on Friday, after indictments by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office based in The Hague. Another former KLA unit commander was arrested on Thursday on war crime charges.
President Hashim Thaçi said the arrest operations didn’t have to be sensational.
