Kosovo Ramps Up Pandemic Restrictions, Bars Closed, Curfew Introduced

The government imposed a curfew between 22:00 – 05:00 accross Kosovo starting from tomorrow, in an attempt to curb the spread of coronavirus.

In addition, it ordered the shutting down of services in bars and restaurants from April 7 to April 18. They will be able to work with take away and delivery orders.

Shopping malls will also be closed during the same period, except for shops offering essential services like grocery stores and pharmacies.

The government cited the spread of a UK coronavirus mutation in Kosovo as the main push for the decision. Latest reports showed that 97 percent of the 147 samples suspected with the UK variant resulted positive.

Kosovo has reported 1,926 deaths to date, while 14,284 cases remain active.
