Today, Kosovo will rebury Dibran Dibrani, Zeqir Muja, and Remzi Kurteshi, three ethnic Albanian men who were abducted and forcibly disappeared by Serbian forces 22 years ago.
Dibran Dibrani was 69 years old when he was taken by Serbian forces on May 24, 1999. Zeqir Muja was 79 and was forcibly disappeared on May 29, 1999.
The mortal remains of the two victims were found and exhumed late last year at the Muslim cemetery of the northern city of Mitrovica, where they had been buried by Serb forces in an attempt to hide the traces of their crime.
Remzi Kurteshi was 27 years old when he was forcibly disappeared by Serbian forces on April 15, 1999.
Another victim, Nezir Shabani was reburied last week, after a DNA test helped identify him. His family decided for Shabani to be buried next to Selahedin Mehmeti who was identified and reburied during April, as they were together when abducted by Serbian forces on June 5, 1999.
Both victims were also found at the Muslim cemetery in Mitrovica.
In the upcoming days, the remains of the martyr Remzi Maksuti and the war victim Magbule Morina, identified recently, will be handed over for reburial.
Reburial ceremonies are supported by the Government Commission for Missing Persons, in coordination and close cooperation with municipal institutions and family associations, based on the families’ requests.
Over 1,600 persons are still listed as missing from the Kosovo War.
