Kosovo signed its first agreement with Pfizer/BioNTech to buy over 1.2 million doses of Coronavirus vaccine, to be delivered by the end of 2021.
The country was the last in the region to start the immunization process thanks to 180,000 vaccines donated by the World Health Organization mechanism, COVAX and the European Union.
The Minister of Health, Arben Vitia said on Friday evening that government plans to vaccinate 60% of the population by the end of the year.
Around 60,000 vaccines have been administrated so far.
Vita also stated that this agreement marks the most important moment in Kosovo’s fight against COVID-19.
The government has decided to ease restrictions by lifting curfew and ending the mandatory wearing of face masks in public when a person is walking alone, diving, biking or doing sports in open air areas.
The number of people infected has decreased significantly, while the vaccination of endangered groups is ongoing.
On Friday, Kosovo reported no deaths, while the number of active cases has dropped to just about 2,500.
