Kosovo Should Implement the Stabilization Association Agreement, Parliament Speaker Says

Kosovo’s speaker of Parliament, Vjosa Osmani said on Tuesday that the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) aims to improve relations between Kosovo and the European Union.

At the constitutive meeting of the EU- Kosovo Joint Parliamentary Committee on Stabilization Association Agreement held on Tuesday, Osmani said that its members should prioritize the implementation of the SAA.

“The Stabilization and Association Agreement aims to regulate the Kosovo-EU agreements and strengthen its integration into the European Union market. This agreement requires free trade because in the SAA lie the economic aspects,” Prishtina based news agency Ekonomia Online quotes Osmani.

The Chairman of the committee Arben Gashi said that they will meet twice a year.

“The Commission meets twice a year, one of the meetings is held in Kosovo and one in the countries of the European Union. We have the national plan of the SAA, which was delivered to the Government of Kosovo “.

Enver Hoxhaj, a parliament member of the opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo, PDK said that he requested for coordination ahead the European Summit to push forward issues related to Kosovo.

“The European summit will take place on the first week of December and we should think about the recommendations that pass to the European Council and have our support,” said Hoxhaj who also served as Kosovo’s minister of foreign affairs.

“… the list of these European friends can be functional and in the service of Kosovo if we now see what the recommendations are and what can be approved,” Hoxhaj added.

The Stabilization and Association Agreement was signed in October 2015 by the former Prime Minister of Kosovo Isa Mustafa and the former High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

The agreement provides better access for Kosovo’s exports to the European market.
