Kosovo to Hold Local Elections on October 17

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani announced that local elections will take place on October 17.

The press statement released by Osmani’s office says that the decision was made following the conclusion of consultation with political entities.

“With the same decision, President Osmani instructed the Central Election Commission to take all necessary actions for the organization and holding of local elections in accordance with this decision and applicable law,” the statement reads.

Political parties will announce their candidates for the mayoral posts of 38 municipalities, who will be elected for a four-year mandate each.

The announcement concerning the upcoming local elections comes one day after Osmani dismissed the chairwoman of CEC, Valdete Daka, by replacing her with Kreshnik Radoniqi.

Daka’s dismissal was described as a political act by civil society and opposition parties.
