Kosovo to Reinforce Measures against Spread of Covid-19

The Kosovo government may re-introduce some lockdown measures due to the rising number of people infected with Covid-19.

Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti said that all beds at the infectious diseases hospital are occupied.

Gatherings of more than 100 people may be banned and partial lockdown in some areas may be reinstated after the next government meeting.

Hoti told journalists that they are planning to temporarily reduce the number of employees in public institutions by asking some to work from home. Workplaces where Covid-19 infections were found are expected to be closed. The number of medical staff will be increased where needed.

“We cannot allow the situation to get out of control, the life of the citizens is primary for us. The measures are simple: masks, gloves, washing hands and distancing,” Hoti said.

With a population of 1.8 million, Kosovo has had 49 deaths and 2677 cases in total. The number of cases during the last two weeks has been increasing.
