The Acting President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani said that Vetevendosje’s leader, Albin Kurti will be the coming Prime Minister, following the decision of the Supreme Court which excluded him on Friday from the electoral list for the snap elections set to be held on February 14.
In a Facebook post, Osmani wrote that votes punish a governing model and open “a new political chapter.”
She calls for courage and bravery and adds at the end that “Albin Kurti will be Prime Minister”.
Although Kurti will not run for MP, he has the right to be appointed Prime Minister if voted by the Assembly of Kosovo.
Vjosa Osmani will run on Vetevendosje’ list for the snap parliamentary elections.
The Supreme Court’s decision is based on Vetevendosje’s complaint after the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) decided to confirm the Central Election Commission’s (CEC) decision to not certify the party’s list after five candidates who did not meet the criteria were not replaced.
The situation is created following the ruling of the Constitutional Court that led to snap elections. It stipulated that no person convicted with a final decision by a Kosovo court in the last three years may be sworn in and serve as an MP.
In 2018, Kurti received a suspended sentence for throwing tear gas in Parliament in protest against border demarcation with Montenegro. Vetevendosje claimed that Kosovo lost territory. They protested in the same way against the establishment of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities.
