Kosovo’s Army Is Ready for NATO, Acting President Says

While addressing to soldiers of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), the Acting President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani stated on Wednesday that is time for the army to become part of NATO.

She said that even KSF is still on the period of increasing capacities, 2020 was successful for the force.

“During the pandemic, the KSF has supported the institutions as requested and has shown that it can provide its assistance,” she said.

“Kosovo today has professional forces in line with the mission. The time has come for our military to give its contribution to foreign peacekeeping forces,” Osmani said.

Osmani said that their readiness to serve the country is proved by “the help they gave to Albania and the readiness to help Croatia”.

In 2018, the Assembly of Kosovo approved legal changes to transform the mandate of the Kosovo Security Force into an armed force.

The transformation process of the Kosovo Army is expected to last ten years.
