The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) claims it has the votes of the parliamentary majority needed to form a new government, after that of Albin Kurti was ousted in a LDK-led vote of no-confidence, only 52 after coming to power.
The head of LDK’s parliamentary group Arben Gashi told reporters that the party has acquired the votes of 64 MPs, out of the parliament’s 120. A new government requires the votes of at least 61 MPs.
Gashi announced that in the following days formal coalition agreements with other parties would be signed, before LDK calls an extraordinary parliamentary meeting and notifies President Hashim Thaci of their parliamentary majority. The President will then mandate them to form a new government.
Though Gashi claimed no coalition agreements had been signed yet, it is likely that LDK will form a coalition with former Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s party AAK, the Nisma+AKR coalition, and minority parties.
On April 23, LDK announced Avdullah Hoti as their nominee for prime minister. Hoti served as co-Deputy Prime Minister under Kosovo’s Outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti until he was dismissed by the latter for voting against Kurti’s government in the vote of no-confidence that ousted it. He also served as Kosovo’s Minister of Finance from 2014 to 2017.
