The outgoing Prime Minister of Kosovo, Avdullah Hoti sent a letter to the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, congratulating him on his new post.
Hoti wrote in his letter that he was committed to working with the United States of America on efforts to reach a normalization agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, based on mutual recognition.
“This agreement would strengthen regional stability and enable both countries to realize their full potential of cooperation. Kosovo is committed to working with you, as well as with our partners in the European Union, to strengthen the rule of law, establish stability, sustainable economic development, and the development of democracy, as a country fully prepared for the European- Atlantic integration process,” Hoti wrote.
He added that Kosovo is grateful to the United States of America for the reconfirmation of its support for the country, as an independent, multiethnic, democratic state and fully integrated into Euro-Atlantic structures.
Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in February 2008, but Serbia does not recognize it as an independent country, claiming it as its province.
A dialogue between the two countries has been facilitated from the European Union, aiming at the normalization of relations.
Last year, Kosovo and Serbia signed separate documents at the White House, the title “Economic Normalization”, each prefaced by a congratulatory note by former US President, Donald Trump.
