KQZ Approves Tirana Results, Idrizi Not in Parliament

PDIU leader Shpëtim Idrizi has definitely lost his seat in Parliament. Yesterday the Central Election Commission (KQZ) approved the final results for the County of Tirana and rejected the PDIU’s request to postpone the inspection and approval of the results.

In Tirana, the PDIU received 12,347 votes, or 2.98% of the votes, therefore failing to pass the 3% electoral threshold, which would have been enough for Idrizi to win a mandate.

On June 27, PDIU had submitted a complaint regarding 31 votes in 4 counting centers at the KQZ. According to the PDIU, these 31 votes had been erroneously attributed to the PDS. However, these votes would probably not have made a difference as regards Idrizi’s potential mandate.

Idrizi claims meanwhile that the KQZ has not published all the data online making it difficult to calculate the precise electoral threshold.

At least the exact number of voters and invalid or contested votes has to be known, so that we know how many 3% exactly is. To receive a mandate, 11,500 votes are necessary. This is a problem of the 3% threshold, which depends on the number of votes after the verification of all the protocols, the general number of votes and the number of invalid votes.

Tirana is the only county in Albania where the electoral threshold of 3% is higher than the number of votes necessary to win a mandate.
