The Central Election Commission (KQZ) budget for the parliamentary elections in June do not include funds for the implementation of electronic voting technology. This also means that the request of the opposition to implement electronic voting has not been honored by the government.
Opposition leader Lulzim Basha had requested electronic voting as a way to guarantee fair elections. The Rama Government and the OSCE rejected Basha’s proposal, stating that the implementation period was too short.
During the last meeting the KQZ discussed the budget for the 2017 elections with a total of 733 million lekë (~€5.4 million). The majority of the funds, 275 million lekë has been reserved for KQZ personnel. 340 people with temporary contracts will be involved in the elections, at a sum of 69 million lekë.
Meanwhile, the electoral reform still has not been approved in Parliament.
