Kurti and Vucic to Meet in Brussels on 18 August

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandër Vucic, will meet on 18 August in Brussels.

The news was confirmed by the spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, who said that both leaders had accepted the invitation of the High Representative, Josep Borrell. The representative of the EU for the dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, will also be present at this meeting.

“I can confirm that after the High Representative, Josep Borrell, invited both parties to Brussels, Prime Minister Kurti and President Vucic have accepted his invitation. They will be welcomed in Brussels on 18 August by Borrell and EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak to discuss the way forward in the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue,” said Stano.

This invitation came at a time of heightened tensions in northern Kosovo after local Serbs set up barricades to oppose two Kosovo government decisions related to Serbian documents and license plates.

The barricades were removed on the afternoon of 1 August, and  Kurti vowed to postpone the implementation of these two decisions for a month.
