Lecturers in State Universities Haven’t Received December 2019 Salary

The government has still not paid the December 2019 salaries of some lecturers at public universities.

As of yesterday, some 12,000 teachers had still not been paid but a transfer was made into their bank accounts by early afternoon, over a week late.

Unfortunately, some lecturers at the University of Medicine, the University of Arts, the Faculty of Journalism, the Faculty of Economics of the University of Tirana told Exit that they had not been paid and had no idea when the payment would be forthcoming.

Term started on 6 January and it is not known why there have been such delays in settling salaries.

Yesterday, Exit spoke to a teacher at a secondary school in Tirana about the delay in wages being paid. She said that they received no communication as to why there had been a delay.

She added; “I have colleagues where both the husband and wife are both teachers and have nothing. Not only should the government pay us on time but they should pay us more because a dignified salary will bring a better and more dignified education.”

“We are teaching the future of the nation,” she concluded.
