Legal Affairs Commission Starts Hearing Session for Temporary General Prosecutor

Yesterday, the five-day deadline announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama for applying for the new position of Temporary General Prosecutor ended. The parliamentary Legal Affairs Commission, which charged itself with selecting the successor of General Prosecutor Adriatik Llalla, even though the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) has not yet announced the end of his mandate, is holding a hearing session today with the applicants:

  1. Arqilea Koça – prosecutor at the General Prosecution
  2. Arta Marku –  prosecutor at the Prosecution of Shkodra
  3. Artur Selmani – former prosecutor at the General Prosecution
  4. Besnik Muçi – prosecutor at the Prosecution of Serious Crimes
  5. Ferdinand Elezi – prosecutor at the Prosecution of Durrës
  6. Granit Shahu – prosecutor at the Prosecution of Shkodra
  7. Ermira Tafani – prosecutor at the Prosecution of Elbasan

As Exit explained before, the Temporary General Prosecutor will be elected by a simple majority, will have an unlimited term in office, and does not need to pass vetting.

With the recent declaration of the Civil Society Ad-Hoc Commission that finding a civil society member for the KLP will prove well nigh impossible, whomever is elected by Parliament will be the de facto General Prosecutor for the foreseeable future.
