Macedonian Opposition Demands Resignation of Prime Minister over Corruption Investigation

North Macedonian opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski of VMRO-DPMNE demanded the resignation of Zoran Zaev’s government, at a press conference on Wednesday.

His reaction came following the corruption investigations against General Secretary Dragi Rashtovski of the Prime Minister’s Office.

“This entire criminal government should resign, not just Rashkovski. Rashkovski should be where he belongs, in prison. It is not possible for a civil officer with a salary of several hundred euros or a university professor to own and build a building with thousands of square meters, to go on luxury vacation in the middle of pandemic and to ride a new off-road car worth 70-80 thousand euros”, said Mickoski, while commenting on the resignation of Dragi Rashtovski.

Dragi Rashtovski resigned on Tuesday, following the launch of an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission into a tender for software to monitor the traffic. The commission found issues with Rashtovski’s assets.

His name has been related to another corruption scandal to procure air traffic control systems over Skopje International airport.

The opposition leader says that if Raskovski has increased his property several times, one can only imagine what is happening with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and other officials.
