The resumption of the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, mediated by the European Union, has been postponed to July 16.
The first meeting between representatives of the two countries since November 2018 was set to take place on July 12. In its stead, a virtual meeting will be held on that date.
The decision was taken during today’s online summit by Kosovo’s Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, German Chancellor Merkel and French President Macron. It was further confirmed by Hoti’s office.
The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, and the EU’s special envoy to the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak will also be present at the July 12 and July 16 summits.
The dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia came to a halt in late 2018, following Kosovo’s imposition of a 100% tax on goods from Serbia, in retaliation for Serbia’s derecognition campaign against Kosovo.
The tax was later replaced by reciprocity measures by the Kurti government. However, reciprocity measures were also lifted by the Hoti government in order to allow dialogue to continue.
