German Chancellor Angela Merkel told Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama in a video conference on Monday that the country’s progress in EU negotiations depends on the implementation of justice reform, and fight against crime and corruption.
In a press statement published by the German Embassy in Albania, Steffen Seibert, the spokesman for the federal government announced that “Important reforms that will determine the speed of negotiations relate primarily to the judiciary and the fight against organized crime and corruption.”
The statement added that the two leaders exchanged views on the pandemic, bilateral and economic relations, the situation in the region, and Albania’s progress towards the EU.
In an earlier announcement, Rama made public only the topics discussed with Merkel, giving no information on her stance on issues.
