Mini Schengen at Work, Albanians and Serbs Can Now Travel with Just an ID Card

Albanians and Serbs will be able to use only their ID cards when travelling the two countries. Passports will not be required starting from January 20, although they can still be used.

In November 2020, the leaders of the two countries, Edi Rama and Aleksandar Vucic signed an agreement to simplify procedures and ease travel for their citizens, as part of their so-called mini Schengen initiative. Albania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that the agreement has entered force on January 20.

Serbia has become the fifth country where Albanians can enter only by presenting a biometric identity card, following similar deals with Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina,
