The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazovic, has asked the leaders of the public and secret police to investigate death threats he has received due to the arrest of Petar Lazovic.
Abazovic informed the Minister of Internal Affairs Filip Adjic, the Director of the Police Administration Zoran Brđan and the director of the National Security Agency Sava Kentera about claims that groups close to Zoran Lazovic and his son Petar are targeting him and planning revenge.
In July of last year, the European Union Law Enforcement Agency – Europol handed over to the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) transcripts of messages exchanged through that application, explaining that policemen Petar corresponded and cooperated with the leaders and members of the Kavak criminal group.
“The arrested ANB official Petar Lazovic has a problem with the law. This, I hope, is clear to all those who want me to persevere with my colleagues in the mission of establishing a rule of law, from which I will not give up even one millimetre, despite threats, extremist tones, language of hatred”, Abazovic said.
“I have been informed by several sources that in the confessions of groups close to Lazović, I was mainly targeted because of their problems with the law. Also, they told me that they are trying to create an atmosphere in which I, as the prime minister, am allegedly putting “pressure” on the prosecutors to prosecute Lazović and the criminal-business group of people around them.” he added.
Petar is the son of the former head of the Sector for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption and the former assistant director of the Police Administration, Zoran Lazović.
