The Montenegrin Parliament voted in the 42nd government on Friday following August 2020 elections. It’s headed by Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić, the leader of the winning “For the Future of Montenegro” coalition. 41 MPs in the 81-seat parliament approved the new government.
Dritan Abazović, the leader of the Black on White coalition, also the kingmaker of last elections, will be the country’s Deputy Prime Minister.
This is the first time in three decades that President Milo Djukanović’s Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will not be heading the government.
The new government will have 12 expert ministers that will focus on reforms, economy and rule of law.
In the last parliamentary elections, three opposition coalitions — “For the Future of Montenegro”, “Peace is Our Nation” and “Black on White” — won just enough seats to form a new government and oust the party of Milo Djukanović after nearly 30 years in power.
While the two biggest blocks are pro-Serb, Abazović of “Black and White”, whose party has four MPs, has promised to keep the country on EU and NATO tracks. He has also vowed to push for investigations against corrupt politicians.
