New Minister of Education Besa Shahini called on students today not to block university administration’s work with their occupation of faculties.
In a press statement Minister Shahini said that “student occupation of faculties makes it impossible for the ministry of education to have the list of students [which will be considered for reductions in their] fees and for scholarship.”
Shahini said that today was the last day for the 50 officers from ministries of education and finance to assist students in universities regarding the payment of tuition fees in accordance with government’s latest decision.
The dean of the Faculty of Law Artan Hoxha also called on students to return to classes and end the occupation.
“You have hijacked the faculty”- he is heard telling students in a video.
Students are still boycotting the lectures and occupying their faculties despite pressures. They have not allowed officers from the two ministries to enter faculties.
Several students denounced attempts by the Director of the Department of Public Administration Albana Koçiu to entice some of them into accepting jobs in government agencies in exchange for their withdrawal from the protest.
Hundreds of students have occupied seven faculties for about a week. They are putting pressure on the government to meet their eight demands and retract the law on higher education.
