Ali Ahmeti has been invited to testify at Kosovo’s Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in The Hague. He is the leader of the largest Albanian party in North Macedonia, the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI).
Ahmeti announced on social media that he had accepted the invitation but did not reveal when he will travel there.
“Rule of law and attaining genuine impartial justice, locally and internationally, are my permanent goal and obligation throughout my activity.
Therefore, I inform you that the Specialist Chambers of the Republic of Kosovo, namely Kosovo’s Special Prosecutor’s Office has invited me as a witness, as one of the founders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and a member of the General Staff, and without hesitation I have accepted the invitation,” Ahmeti wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
Kosovo’s Specialist Chambers and Specialized Prosecutor’s Office were set up by Kosovo parliament, following a 2011 Council of Europe report that alleged crimes were committed by members of the KLA against ethnic minorities and political rivals between 1998 and 2000. The court is located in The Hague.
Prosecutors have interviewed hundreds of former KLA members so far but no charges have been filed yet.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi was interviewed for four days last week.
