Today, July 13, is the first out of three consecutive election days in North Macedonia. The elections will last from Monday until Wednesday in an attempt to minimize the spread of coronavirus.
Coronavirus infected citizens, and those that have self quarantined, will vote on July 13, with ballot boxes being taken to their residences by electoral officials and medical teams. Only 700 of the 5000 infected citizens have registered to vote.
Prison inmates, the elderly and the chronically ill will be able to vote on July 14 via a similar process.
Whereas on July 15, voting centers will open at 7am and close at 9pm, two hours later than the usual 7pm. Masks will be mandatory within the centers, alongside at least 2 meters of physical distance between persons.
These are the first elections North Macedonia holds under its new name. Early elections were initially scheduled to be held on April 12 but were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
