Number of Coronavirus Victims in Albania Quintupled After Reopening

Four Albanians succumbed to COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of coronavirus victims in the country to 193.

The number of victims, alongside the number of reported infected cases, has seen a significant increase beginning from a few days after the country reopened, in early June.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 193 people have died due to COVID-19.

From March 9, when the first coronavirus case was reported in Albania, until June 1, when the country had just begun coming out of quarantine, 33 people succumbed to the virus. During the nearly 11 weeks, the country witnessed, on average, 3 victims per week.

Meanwhile in the 11 weeks from June 1 to August 8, the amount of victims grew almost five times, with 160 people, or 15 per week, succumbing to the virus.

The increase in victims has been accompanied by a rise in hospitalized cases, and daily reported cases.

As of August 8, in the country’s two COVID-19 hospitals, there are 116 hospitalized people. 18 of them are in intensive care and 4 are intubated.
