Over 45kg of Cocaine Seized in Durres Port

Albanian police have seized 45kg of cocaine in a container of meat at the Port of Durres on Wednesday night.

The operation was conducted following a tip-off to the police. Some 40 packages of chicken were identified which had drugs packed in them. The shipment was coming from Brazil and was ordered on behalf of a Macedonian company.

The ship, Contship Eco was in the Port of Piraeus Greece on 12 June before departing for Albania on 13 June. The vessel flys the Liberian flag, known as a flag of convenience due to lax regulations.

According to reports, the administrator of the Macedonian company that was due to receive the shipment is a Kosovo citizen. Police have arrested a suspect believed to be the administrator, Arben Ferizi and a customs agent in the Port of Durres, Egert Vargu.
