Former Albanian President and Prime Minister, and persona non-grata in the US, Sali Berisha said that a Paris judge has accepted his case against US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Berisha is suing Blinken for defamation after the former accused the latter of significant corruption and banned him and his family from setting foot on US soil. He said the claims were baseless and ‘rendered without any evidence, fact, or document” that would support the decision.
“In addition, during 30 years of my career, I have never been charged or investigated for any form of corruption. No one has ever filed a lawsuit or proven any allegations of corruption in a court of law against me or my family members,” he added.
Berisha told the Washington Times that a judge in a Paris court has accepted his lawsuit against Blinken.
Exit contacted a spokesperson for the court. They confirmed that a case had been filed with a judge on behalf of Berisha, but that this is not something significant or special.
“All Paris lawyers file this kind of lawsuit to a judge directly and do not use the police, because it is one person’s word against another and there is no need for deep investigation.”
They added, “Anyone can take that kind of complaint to a judge, the judge will then decide if it goes to court or not. A complaint has been filed to a judge.”
In other words, a complaint has been filed, but this is a part of the procedure and does not mean the case has merit or is likely to be won.
Berisha told the Washington Post that he invites the secretary of state to present to the court any evidence, fact, or document to prove the allegations on which he has based his “groundless decision”. He has repeatedly claimed the action against him was based on “misinformation” from liberals and George Soros.
