Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that the first batch of vaccine supply from Pfizer will arrive on Monday.
The number of vaccines will be less than agreed with the company, he said during a visit in Korce on Saturday.
“We have received confirmation that the supply from Pfizer will start on Monday, I hope we will not receive another announcement. We will start with a smaller amount than promised, but they will increase rapidly,” he said.
Rama had announced earlier that 10,750 vaccine doses from Pfizer would arrive in the third week of January. However, this was not made possible due to delays from the company.
It’s not clear how many doses are expected to arrive on Monday.
The government has kept the contract with Pfizer a secret, as per the company’s request and their agreement.
Rama has also not revealed the donor country of 975 vaccine doses, claiming this could urge other countries to request the same favor from the donor.
The Albanian government previously vaccinated some 600 doctors but did not have enough to give them the second dose.
