Yesterday, Kastriot Piroli, the last candidate on the deputy list of the Socialist Party (PS) for Lezha county, sent a letter to the Central Election Commission, giving up his claim to the seat vacated by Armando Prenga.
Earlier this month, Piroli had claimed the mandate, saying that he is currently “under probation” and has only “two months left.” According to the decriminalization law, Piroli would not be eligible for Parliament because of a criminal conviction in his past.
In his letter, Piroli claimed that he had withdrawn for “personal reasons.”
I have handed in my resignation because there are only two months left in parliament and I have been three and a half years without work and it’s not worth it to become a deputy for two months.
It is now certain that the mandate will pass to the second largest party in the coalition, LSI, which will influence the internal balance between the PS–LSI government.
