In his weekly Facebook monologue, Prime Minister Edi Rama extensively commented on the armed robbery of what now appears to be €3.2 million from a BKT transport on the way to Tirana International Airport on February 9.
He echoed the statement of the Minister of Interior Affairs Saimir Tahitri, who put the entire blame of the recent armed robberies on the lax security of banks and the low wages offered by private security firms.
The success of robberies has been connected also with the miserable security systems and with the unjustifiable refusal to implement measures that have been repeatedly suggested by the State Police. […] What can the police do when the bank is not prepared to notify the police?
Even though police patrol groups are supposed to secure the road toward Rinas, the State Police failed to respond while a total of thirteen shots were fired at the money transport.
Prime Minister Rama claimed that the “State Police has completely uncovered both the spectacular case in Rinas and the [BKT] bank robbed in the center of Tirana.” Nevertheless, the Prosecution has only asked for the conviction of six people who are thought to have collaborated with the robbers, while the latter remain unapprehended by the police.
He also stated that all the previous of robbery are all “inside jobs”:
In the time of the previous government banks have been robbed 32 times. In those cases, as well as in the most recent case, the robberies have been organized by help from within the institutions that have fallen prey to them.
