Police in Pogradec have arrested three people for transporting nine illegal immigrants to Tirana. The drivers are residents of Shkodra.
The detainees had promised to transport them to Tirana in exchange for money. They had also promised them passage to one of the northern border crossings. Their final destination would be an EU country.
Albania has long been a transit country for immigrants from the Middle East who want to cross into Europe. Police have cracked down on the issue over the last two months and have made a significant number of arrests.
