President Ilir Meta has appointed Judge Arbena Ahmetaj to the High Court following a proposal by the High Judicial Council.
The country has now 10 of its 19 members, and is able to fill in its three vacancies at the Constitutional Court.
Albania’s High Court and Constitutional Court were decimated and rendered dysfunctional for about two years due to the vetting of judges under the ongoing justice reform.
President Meta called on the High Judicial Council to complete proposals for nominations to the High Court.
His appointment of Judge Ahmeti was welcomed by the EU and US embassies in Tirana.
