The recently established Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry has until May 24 to complete their report on the dismissal of President Meta.
The committee has asked President Meta to appear before them for a hearing between May 19 and May 24 to respond to the accusations made against him by the ruling Socialist Party.
The chairman of the Committee of Inquiry, Alket Hyseni proposed that Meta choose a hearing date according to his work calendar, since the President couldn’t participate today due to his busy schedule.
The President released an official letter to Parliament refusing to attend the hearing scheduled for today. He also refused to recognize the legitimacy of the Committee and called the investigative process “fictitious” and unconstitutional. Meta hinted that he will not appear before the Committee of Inquiry and stated that he has responded to all requests made by the Committee of Inquiry for his dismissal.
Meta said that the Committee of Inquiry could not take place during the transitional period between the end of the current Parliamentary mandate, and the beginning of the newly-elected Parliament’s in September.
President Meta reiterated that the Committee’s true aim is to divert attention from PS’s electoral crimes and intimidate the very institutions that are meant to investigate the complaints brought forward to uncover them.
The Committee of Inquiry was set up at the request of 49 Socialist MPs who seek President Meta’s impeachment. President Meta was accused by the ruling Socialist Party of violating the Constitution by not remaining impartial during the election period.
