The Serious Crimes Prosecution Office is demanding former Minister of Interior Affairs, Saimir Tahiri, be taken into custody.
Today, the Prosecution appealed the Appeals Court May 28 ruling, that waived Tahiri’s remand and released him, at the High Court.
According to the Prosecution, Tahiri may meddle with or destroy evidence that links him to the international drug trafficking gang of the Habilaj brothers.
Tahiri stands accused of “trafficking of narcotics” as part of a structured criminal group per articles 28, 283/a, and 333/a of the Albanian Criminal Code, as well as “passive corruption by high state officials or local elected officials” per article 260 of the Criminal Code.
The former Minister was placed under house arrest on May 12, after a Serious Crimes Court ruling.
However, on May 28, the Appeals Court ordered Tahiri’s release. He is remains under investigation.
