Today, the Tirana Prosecution Office has launched investigations into abuse of prices for basic pharmaceutical products intended to prevent flu symptoms, including face masks and sanitizers.
This comes in the wake of citizen concerns that pharmacies are raising prices for these products almost hourly. Reports claim that small amounts of sanitizer have increased in price nearly sixfold in a few days, whereas face masks go for ten times the price.
Personal hygiene and sanitizer use are measures advised to be taken for the prevention of coronavirus by the World Health Organization. While no infected cases have yet been reported in Albania, the arrival of the virus in the neighboring country of Italy has the population on edge, and the government has already put certain preventative measures in place.
