ABC News reports that the General Prosecution has started the investigation of 4 candidates of the Justice, Integration, and Unity Party (PDIU) in the context of the decriminalization law.
The four candidates under investigation are:
- Sait Fishta, a businessman and contractor who is no. 1 on the PDIU candidate list in Shkodra, previously convicted for smuggling contraband and falsifying documents. Fishta is also the former mayor of Velipoja and candidate for the PS in Shkodra during the 2013 elections. In February 2016 Fishta was arrested on charges of illegal construction work.
- Fatos Hoxha, former PD deputy and no. 1 on the PDIU candidate list in Kukës, claims not having been convicted in the past;
- Robert Bano, lawyer and no. 6 on the PDIU candidate list in Tirana, claims not having been convicted in the past;
- Shkëlqim Murati, state inspector and no. 8 on the PDIU candidate list in Fier, claims not having been convicted in the past.
The Prosecution has seized their decriminalization self-declaration forms from the Central Election Commission (KQZ) and has requested information from the Directorate-General of Prisons as well Europol and Interpol.
