The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office (SPAK) of Albania has requested the confiscation of assets of former Tirana Appeals Judge Shkëlqim Miri, who was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison for corruption.
SPAK has requested the confiscation of €144,810, $1,000 and 9.3 million Albanian Lek (€74,000) belonging to Miri.
Shkëlqim Miri was arrested in November 2017, when police found 34 million Albanian Lek in cash (€272,000) in his house, allegedly obtained through corruption.
Judge Miri was found to have obtained millions for upholding a ruling to release a convict.
The High Council of Justice dismissed him shortly after his arrest.
SPAK has requested the confiscation of only a part of 34 million ALL as a result of Miri’s claim that part of the money was borrowed from relatives for his medical treatment.
