Prosecution Requests Confiscation of Assets of Sentenced Former Judge

The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office (SPAK) of Albania has requested the confiscation of assets of former Tirana Appeals Judge Shkëlqim Miri, who was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison for corruption.

SPAK has requested the confiscation of 144,810, $1,000 and 9.3 million Albanian Lek (€74,000) belonging to Miri.

Shkëlqim Miri was arrested in November 2017, when police found 34 million Albanian Lek in cash (272,000) in his house, allegedly obtained through corruption.

Judge Miri was found to have obtained millions for upholding a ruling to release a convict.

The High Council of Justice dismissed him shortly after his arrest.

SPAK has requested the confiscation of only a part of 34 million ALL as a result of Miri’s claim that part of the money was borrowed from relatives for his medical treatment.
